L3-Malaria platform
The parasite responsible for malaria, Plasmodium falciparum, is a class 3* microbial agent that currently kills more than 500.000 children per year. Due to this, it needs to be manipulated in a Class 3 (L3) containment laboratory.
The new L3-MALARIA Platform located within the LPHI laboratory will be soon composed of two L3 laboratories fully dedicated to research on malaria, thanks to financial support from Région Occitanie, University of Montpellier, CNRS and the European Commission. The platform is open to all the Montpellier scientific community. The second laboratory, currently under set-up, should be fully operational in the beginning of 2023.
